Robert Winzeler, 81, of Morenci, Mich., died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at Grand Court in Adrian, Mich.
He was born Feb. 24, 1931, in Medina Township, Mich., the son of William T. and Esther E. (Capper) Winzeler. On May 22, 1951, in Fayette, Ohio, he married Joan M. Schaffner. She preceded him in death Jan. 10, 2006.
Robert lived in the Morenci-Fayette area all of his life. He served in the U.S. Navy from March 1951 through March 1955, during the Korean War. He worked for Morenci Rubber Products for 43 years, retiring in April 1999. He spent one year in retirement, then worked for Conforma Clad in Louisville, Ky., for three years. Robert and his brother, James, co-owned Winzeler's 5¢ to $1.00 Store in Morenci for 15 years.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Morenci and the Morenci American Legion Post #368. He served on the Morenci Board of Education from 1968 thru 1976. He was a past president of the Morenci Kiwanis Club; secretary of the Wednesday Night Golf League for many years; and spent 20 years with the Morenci Area Little League.
From 1996 to the present, Robert spent his winters in Zephyrhills, Fla.
He is survived by a daughter, Cindy (and Darren) Schmucker of Morenci; a son, Jeff (and Connie) Winzeler of Dublin, Ohio; four grandchildren, Monica and Mitchell Schmucker and Gracie and Mason Winzeler; two brothers, George (and Linwood) Winzeler of Jasper, Mich., and William Jr. (and Nancy) Winzeler of Adrian, Mich.
Besides his wife, Robert was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Celia MacQueen; and two brothers, Harold and James Winzeler.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Pastor Ralph Stuebs officiating. Burial will follow at the Lime Creek Cemetery in Medina Township. Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Sunday.
