Anita “Joan” Emmons, 75, of Sand Creek, Mich., died June 13, 2012, at Provincial House.
Born Jan. 5, 1937, in Fayette, Ohio, she was the daughter of Donald and Marie (Richardson) Roth. She graduated from Morenci High School in 1954.
On March 12, 1955, Joan was married to Donald Emmons at her parents’ home. Don, her husband of 57 years, survives.
Joan was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who not only cared for her family, but many other children as well. She decorated many cakes for friends and family including her children’s wedding cakes. Joan was a faithful member of the Weston First Baptist Church where she was active in the Ladies Missionary Guild. She was known as a gifted seamstress and made clothing for missionary families.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by two daughters: Janis Emmons of Morenci and Judy (and Andrejs) Kalnmals of Chicago; one son, Curtis (and Julie) Emmons of Sand Creek; grandchildren Amanda, Christopher, Michael, and Liena; and her siblings: Jean (and Ross) Brazee of Wooster, Ohio; Jane (and Jr.) Kruse of Morenci; Janet (and Allen) Livingston of Hudson, Mich; and Jerry (and Liz) Roth of Adrian, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, June 18, at Wagley Funeral Home, with Rev. Duane Cross and Rev. Robert Farison officiating. Burial will follow at Sand Creek Cemetery. Visitation is planned at the funeral home from 1-6 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions in memory of Joan may be made to the Weston First Baptist Church or Erie West Hospice.
