Thelma “Ann” Walker, 72, of N. Eagle St., Fayette, Ohio, died Feb. 10, 2012, at Akron General Hospital in Akron, Ohio.
She was born Sept. 22, 1939, in Waldron, Mich., to the late Howard and Eugenia (Lester) Phillips. She married Orland “Bud” Walker on May 11, 1990, and he preceded her in death Aug. 3, 2004.
Ann grew up in Waldron and graduated from Waldron High School in 1957. She was formerly employed at Fayette Tubular Products and also served as a bartender at Harry’s Tavern in Fayette for several years. She is remembered for her love of socializing with people, be it during a game of cards or her beloved Bingo. She also enjoyed crafting and spending her winters in Florida. Ann was a member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Eagles #1297 in Morenci.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Grant (and fiancé Kent Lester); two brothers, Charles “Sonny” (and Barb) Phillips of Fayette, and Richard (and Patricia) Phillips of Delta, Ohio; a sister, Deb (and Melvin) Schaedler of Waldron; grandchildren, Natasha (and Jeremy) Roberson of Lansing, Mich., Andrew Beaverson (and fiancée Jenna Figy), Ryan Sanford (and fiancée Jerrica Jacoby), Chad Sanford (and Lori Jaramillo), and Hillary Cox (and fiancé Mitchell Molina), all of Fayette; six great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Maurice Clark of Morenci, Mich., and Sonny New of Fayette; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Phillips of Waldron.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by a son, Mike Beaverson; a brother, Robert Phillips; and three sisters, Leora Clark, Jean Beaverson, and Eleanore “Tic” New.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette, with Donald Crain officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is scheduled from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday.
