Robert C. “Bob” Holtz, 71, of rural Fayette, died Dec. 31, 2011, surrounded by family and friends at his home.
Bob was born May 21, 1940, in Benton Harbor, Mich., to the late Carl and Florence (Griffin) Holtz. He married JoAnne Wadsworth on Jan 2, 1959, and she preceded him in death Aug. 16, 1970. He later married Marcia (Earl) Schmig at Harrison Lake on June 15, 1985, and she survives.
Bob’s mother died in his infancy, and his aunt, Ida Holtz, raised him into young adulthood. He graduated from Pine Village High School in Indiana in 1959. Bob retired from Quality Tube Service in Fayette in 2002, after more than 20 years of service. He enjoyed camping, remote controlled boats, model trains and downhill skiing. He was talented in many skills involving the use of his hands, most notably wood crafting.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by three children, Robert D. Holtz of Melrose, Fla., Teresa (and Dick Warner) Montague of Fayette, and Richard “Dick” Holtz of Anderson, Mo.; two step-sons, Eric Schmig (and Missy Mason) of Edon, Ohio, and Adam Schmig of Pittsford, Mich.; two sisters, Avalynne (and Roy) Cooper of Goodland, Ind., and Debra (and Dave) McNeilly of Fayette; a brother, Tom Warner of Attica, Ind.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Steve (and Sandy) Earl of Hillsdale, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, JoAnne, he was preceded in death by his Aunt Ida.
A memorial visitation is planned from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
