Ronald L. Parke, 73, of Montpelier, Ohio, died June 22, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born Jan. 27, 1938, in Hudson, Mich., the son of Vernon and Jessie (Walter) Parke. He married Margery Shaffer on June 8, 1963, in Morenci, and she survives.
Ron graduated from Wright Township High School in Waldron, Mich. He was employed as an iron worker with Union Local #55 in Toledo for 48 years, retiring in 2003.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post #368 in Morenci. He was also a member of Wauseon Masonic Lodge #349, the Zenobia Shrine and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo.
Ron served as a two-term trustee at Lake Seneca. He was co-owner of the Nest Bar in Fayette for three years. He was an avid Michigan Wolverine, NASCAR, and Detroit sports teams fan. He also coached women’s softball for many years, leading his teams to many tournament championships.
Besides his wife, Ron is survived by five daughters, Lisa Parke of Cleveland, Ohio, Lynn Parke of Bryan, Ohio, Lori (and Dan) Poynter of Montpelier, and Teresa (and Mike) Ehens and Andrea (and John) Jones, both of Illinois; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Lowell Parke of Panama City, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert Parke; and one sister, Viola Atkinson.
Funeral services were June 27 at Krill Funeral Home in Bryan, with Pastor Louie Weber officiating. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Montpelier with graveside military rites conducted by Morenci American Legion Post #368.
