Norman Merillat, 87, of Waldron, Mich., died Jan. 12, 2011, at Community Hospital and Wellness Center in Bryan, Ohio.
He was born Aug. 6, 1923, in Fayette, Ohio, to Samuel and Libbie (Ruger) Merillat. He married Rosetta (Hills) on Sept. 15, 1944, in Prattville, Mich., and she survives.
Norman was a life-long farmer and Waldron area resident. He retired from Fayette Tubular Products and was previously employed with Cargotainer, Hill Industries and Hurdlock, all of Adrian, Mich. He was a member of Prattville Community Church. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Norman is survived by three daughters, Peggy Merillat of Waldron, Shirley (and Robert) Black of Pensacola, Fla., and Barbara (and John) Bennett of Pioneer, Ohio; one son, Calvin (and Ellen) Merillat of Lapeer, Mich.; sister-in-law, Lenore Merillat of Hudson; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Mildred Sentle, Alma Mackey, Helen Anderson and Lydia Day; and four brothers, Dorman, Franklin, Jacob and Marion Merillat.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Pioneer Church of Nazarene, with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Interment will follow in Waldron Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
