Margaret “Shorty” Gleckler, 80, of Lyons, Ohio, died Dec. 28, 2010, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Mich.
She was born Jan. 9, 1930, in Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Joseph and Vera (Volway) Tobin. On Aug. 4, 1951, in Assumption, Ohio, she married Dale Gleckler and he survives.
Shorty has lived in Lyons since 1951, moving from Alvordton, Ohio, from where she graduated from high school. Shorty was a bus driver for the Evergreen School District and retired on April 1, 1992, after 22 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima near Lyons until it closed and then she transferred her membership to St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon, Ohio. Shorty loved kids and volunteered to drive bus to every sporting event that she could.
Besides her husband, Shorty is survived by three sons, Kim (and Linda) Gleckler of Lyons, Ohio, Kip (and Jo) Gleckler of Clear Lake, Ind., and Kelly (and Andrea) Gleckler of Lyons; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Jane Riblett of Plymouth, Mich., Patsy Taylor of Clear Lake, Joanne Whetro of Alvordton, Ohio, and Susan Bany of Bryan, Ohio.
Shorty was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Madeline Sentle, Merlene Creek and Carol Figgins.
Funeral services are planned at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at St. Caspar Catholic Church in Wauseon, with Fr. Edward Schleter officiating. Burial will follow at Lyons Cemetery in Lyons, Ohio. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with a scripture service at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Lenawee Medical Care Facility Activity Fund, Lyons-Royalton Twp. Fire Dept., or a charity of the donor’s choice.
