Lowell E. Merillat, 79, of Fayette, Ohio, died Dec. 24, 2010, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
He was born Oct. 10, 1931, near Fayette, the son of Albert and Florence (Grime) Merillat. He married Barbara Shaffer on Feb. 20, 1953, and she preceded him in death Sept. 15, 2005.
Lowell was a lifelong resident of the Fayette area. He was a farmer and worked at the former Lugbill Livestock Auction and retired from Sauder Woodworking in Archbold. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Archbold.
Lowell is survived by four children, Sandra (and Brent) Schaffner, Lowell (and Laurie) Merillat, Jr., Susan Bernath and Sheryl (and Brooke) Bosco; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Olen, LaVern, Albert, Jr., Ray, Merrill and Dale; and three sisters, Marcella Cordy, Helen Glaser, and Gladys Randall.
Funeral services are planned at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Gary M. Ferguson officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.
Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Short Funeral Home in Archbold. A Scripture Service is planned at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
