Alice Sutherland, 93, of Morenci, Mich., died, Dec. 18, 2010.
Alice was born April 25, 1917, in Onsted, Mich., to Albert and Almeta (Hartzog) Williams. On March 15, 1934, she married C.W. Sutherland, Jr., in Pittsford, Mich., and he preceded her in death Feb. 16, 1989.
Alice was a long-time resident of the Morenci area and worked at Peter Stamping Co. in Fayette, Ohio, where she retired after 18 years. In that time she also raised eight grandchildren.
After a short retirement, she went back to work at Mike’s Pizza Pro in Morenci for 11 years, then worked for Maid For You for three more years. She finally retired at the age of 84.
She was a long-time member of the Morenci American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #368. She loved going to the horse races with her grandson, Gene.
Alice is survived by five children, Janice (and Doug) Hawkins of Ruskin, Fla., Barb (and John) Wall of Addison, Mich., Mace (and Vera) Sutherland of Ruskin, Fla., Russell (and Maxine) Sutherland of Morenci, and Gary (and Sue) Sutherland of Morenci; 38 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Smith and Claudine Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Russell, Berdall and Athal Williams; a sister, Doris Griffith; and a grandson, Rick Bender.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Aden Porter officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday.
