Don Shaffer, 78, of Morenci, Mich., died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at the Fulton County Health Center in Wauseon, Ohio.
He was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Canandaigua, Mich., the son of Herman and Myrtle (Perry) Shaffer. On Feb. 18, 1956, in Wauseon, Ohio, he married Barbara Bunting and she survives.
Don resided in the Morenci area all of his life. He was formerly employed at Roger Miller Ford in Wauseon as a mechanic, from where he retired in 1992. Don served in the U.S. Army from December 1951 through December 1959, during the Korean War.
Besides his wife, Don is survived by two daughters, Deb (and Ken) Walker of Morenci and Diane (and Dan Joughin) Shaffer of Morenci; four sons, Bruce (and Sharon) Shaffer of Britton, Mich., Donald (and JoEllen Kimbrell) Shaffer, Jr., of Morenci, James (and Carmel) Shaffer of Lyons, Ohio, and Brian (and Molly) Shaffer of Morenci; 12 grandchildren, Donnie III, Adam, Brian, Cole, Ross, Lauren, Colin, Shelby, Haven, Miranda, Rowan and Beau; one great-grandson, Damon; one sister, Marcene Garreau of Sylvania, Ohio; and one brother, Francis Shaffer of Lyons, Ohio.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Evelyn Venia and Katherine Shaffer in infancy; and one brother, Raymond Shaffer.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Bruce Clark officiating. Visitation is scheduled Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
