Steven “Cody” Martenies, 21, of Fayette, Ohio, died at his home Sept. 5, 2010, following a long fight with cancer.
Cody was born March 1, 1989, in Wauseon, Ohio, the son of Steve and Diane (Myers) Martenies.
He was a 2008 graduate of Gorham Fayette High School and a member of the carpentry class at Four County Career Center. He was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in June 2008.
Cody was a bright and shining light in the lives of all who knew him. He always had an incredible sense of humor and a deep love for his family.
Cody is survived by his parents; his brother, Brendon (and Mary) Myers; sisters, Jolie (and Erik) Heberling and Elyse Wilson; his grandmothers, Eleanor Myers and Lois Martenies; and several nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandfathers, Donald Myers and Raymond Martenies Sr.; an uncle, Ray Martenies; and his cousin, Jack Martenies.
Funeral services for Cody Martenies are planned at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Fayette Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Winston Hatcliff officiating. Cremation will follow the service and private family interment will take place at a later date.
Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church. According to Cody’s wishes, friends are encouraged to pay their respects in casual attire.
