Joy Newcomer, 66, of Waldron, Mich., died Wednesday, June 2, 2010, at home.
She was born Dec. 28, 1943, in Hudson, Mich., the daughter of Rex and Mildred (Bavin) Newcomer.
Joy lived most of her life in the Waldron area where she was a graduate of the Waldron High School. She earned a teaching degree at Eastern Michigan University and retired from the Lakeville Community Schools (near Flint, Mich.) in 1997, after 30 years of service.
Survivors include her parents, Rex and Mildred Newcomer of Waldron; a sister, Carol (and Mike) Newcomer-Cox of Morenci, Mich.; two brothers, John (and Carol) Newcomer of Chantilly, Va., and Bill (and Nancy) Newcomer of Ada, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, at the Waldron First Church of Christ, with minister Don Crain officiating. Burial will follow at Waldron Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Waldron First Church of Christ or to the Waldron District Library.
