Mardine Towne, 83, of Baldwin Street, Morenci, Mich., die Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Provincial House in Adrian, Mich., under the care of Hospice of Lenawee.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on June 27, 1926, to Lysle and Alta (Brehm) Sutton. On Oct. 11, 1944, Mardine married Robert Towne in Fayette, Ohio. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Robert died Aug. 23, 2002.
Mardine graduated from the Gorham Fayette High School Class of 1944. She devoted her time to being a homemaker and mother. She served more than 20 years as a part-time employee of the U. S. Postal Service in Fayette and also volunteered as a librarian at Fayette Normal Memorial Library. She was a member of the Fayette United Methodist Church and the Northwest Ohio Mother of Twins Club.
Mardine enjoyed reading, traveling, and attending the sporting events and school activities that involved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two of her greatest pleasures were the yearly gatherings of the Brehm family and of the Class of 1944.
Mardine is survived by four sons, Ronald (and Jerolyn) Towne of Addison, Mich., Richard Towne of Canton, Mich., Roger (and Charlotte) Towne of Brighton, Mich., and Ramon (and Lynn) Towne of San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepbrother, stepsister, and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Rev. Kathy Currier officiating. Private interment will take place at the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Stair Public Library in Morenci or Hospice of Lenawee.
