Margaret Klopfenstein, 90, formerly of West Unity, Ohio, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at the Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, Ohio.
She was born Feb. 26, 1919, in Fort Wayne, Ind. She married Leonard Klopfenstein on Feb. 26, 1937, in Angola, Ind., and he preceded her in death Sept. 18, 1991.
Margaret and Leonard lived their early married life in Dayton, Ohio, where they purchased and managed a carryout store. In 1972 they moved to Minnesota, where they owned and ran a resort. In the early 1990s they returned to Ohio and lived in the Fayette and West Unity areas, where Margaret lived until 2008 when her failing health prompted her stay at the Evergreen Manor.
Margaret is survived by a daughter, Sandra (and Burton) Finch of West Unity; one sister, Evelyn Ellsworth of West Unity; one brother, Alfred Short of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Burton Finch, Jr., of Waterville, Ohio, Kimberly Korsgren of Carmichael, Calif., Roberta Wisecup of Spring Valley, Ohio, and Tracy Fulk of Englewood, Ohio; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Jeanete Short; one son, Keith Klopfenstein; one sister, Bernida Tabet; one brother, Joseph Short; and three grandchildren, Leonard and Jeffery Finch, and Christina Klopfenstein.
Funeral services are planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette, with Pastor Clyde Wonders officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. Saturday until the time of service.
