Hazel “Kate” Borton, 95, of Morenci, Mich., died Dec. 28, 2009, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian.  

She was born Jan. 30, 1914, in Fulton County, Ohio, the daughter of Clifford and Amanda (Taylor) Head. She married Forest Dale “F.D.” “Red” Borton on April 11, 1932, in Wauseon, Ohio, and he preceded her in death July 23, 1994.

Kate was a graduate of Chesterfield High School and lived in the Morenci and Wauseon areas all her life. She was employed as a bookkeeper at Bancroft Cleaners in Morenci and was a member of the Morenci American Legion Auxiliary and the Morenci Eagles.

Kate is survived by two daughters, Carol (and Eldon) Crawfis of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Janet Herriott of Morenci; five sons, Richard (and Rita) Borton of Riverside, Calif., Larry (and Jean) Borton of Morenci, R.D. Borton and Robert Borton both of Manitou Beach and Darrel (and Barbara) Borton of Kennewick, Wash.; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Huston of Morenci; a brother, Clifford Head, Jr., of Austin, Texas; and a sister-in-law, Doris Head of Fayette, Ohio.

Besides her husband, Kate was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Shirley; a son, James; a grandson, Mark McDowell; a sister, Phyllis Kibbee; and two brothers, William and Stanley Head.

Funeral services are planned at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 1, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
