Harold Leitner, 76, of Lakeland, Fla., died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009, at his home.
He was born Aug. 21, 1933, in Fulton County, Ohio, the son of Howard and Ruby (Swigert) Leitner. On March 23, 1957, he married Jean Cook and she survives.
Harold was deeply loved by his children and grandchildren. He served in the Army from 1954 through 1956 where he spent 19 months in Germany in the 2nd Armored 66th Tank Battalion. He lived in Morenci until 1991 when he retired from Roadway Express and moved to Florida. He played softball in the early years of retirement, and later worked part-time driving cars for Tom Edwards, Inc., a job he loved.
Besides his wife, Jean, Harold is survived by two sons, Robert (and Sue) Leitner of Lakeland, Fla., and Curt Leitner of Adrian, Mich.; a daughter, Candis (and Russ) Spreeman of Adrian; six grandchildren, Sarah, Nick, Katie, Aaron, Alec, and Ian; two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Ayla; and one brother, Clarence (and Carolyn) Leitner of Wauseon, Ohio.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Maude Proudfoot; a brother, Robert Leitner; and a sister Letha Page.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service is planned at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. Jim Yatzek officiating. Visitation is scheduled from noon until the time of service.
