Goldie E. Schaffner, 77, formerly of Fayette, Ohio, died Oct. 31, 2009, at the Avalon by Otterbein in Monclova, Ohio, surrounded by her family and caregivers.
She was born May 28, 1932, in Rainelle, W. Va., to the late Clarence M. and Rosa “Olivia” (Nutter) Kirby. She married Paul G. Schaffner on June 25, 1994, in Perrysburg, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2009.
Goldie worked in housekeeping for St. Luke’s Hospital for 15 years, and at the Holiday Inn in Perrysburg for eight years. She also cleaned homes for numerous people. Goldie worked hard in her life at whatever she did. Her places of worship over past 45 years included the Bethel Assembly of God in Perrysburg, the Delta Assembly of God in Delta, Ohio, and the First Baptist Church in Wauseon, Ohio, where she sang in the choir and participated in women’s ministries. She enjoyed her crafts and gardening.
Surviving Goldie are three daughters, Shirley (and Hap) Warner of Toledo, Char (and Randy) Samko of Toledo, and Tina (and Dave) Hadley of Monclova; one son, Danny (and Vella) Williams of Toledo; four brothers, seven sisters, eleven grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother, Arie Kirby.
A funeral service is planned at 11 a.m. Nov. 5 at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Pastor Randy Trowbridge officiating. Visitation is scheduled at 10 a.m until the service, at the funeral home
Interment will follow at Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette.
