Ethel E. Vanderpool, 88, of Hudson, Mich., died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian, Mich.
She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Winameg, Ohio, the daughter of William and Ollie Mae (Yates) Dulaney. Ethel married Elwood F. Vanderpool on April 6, 1937, in Angola, Ind. He preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1984.
Together they owned and operated a farm. They were members of Lenawee County Farm Bureau and served as 4-H club leaders. Ethel retired from Fayette Tubular Products in 1983, where she also served as chief union steward. Ethel enjoyed crocheting, making quilts and camping with her grandchildren.
Ethel is survived by two daughters, Donna (and Ray) Wilson of Hudson and Evelyn (and Lawrence) Gray of Kissimmee, Fla.; three sons, Jack (and Linda) Vanderpool of Morenci, Mich., Victor (and Judy) Vanderpool and Roger (and Judy) Poling, all of Hudson; two daughters-in-law, Shirley Vanderpool of Morenci and Barbara Poling of Pittsford, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Vanderpool of Montgomery, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Joe Vanderpool and Dennis Poling; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia (and Jim) Poling; daughter-in-law Jan Vanderpool; grandson, Troy Vanderpool; great-granddaughter, Kenzie Butts; and two brothers.
A funeral service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson with Pastor Fritz Kruse officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, at the funeral home.
