Lyle L. Link, 87, of Irvine, Calif., and formerly of Fayette, Ohio, died Aug. 24, 2009, at his home in Irvine.
Lyle was born May 11, 1922, in Tedrow, Ohio, the son of the late Ray and Twila (Brink) Link. He married Edith Thompson on June 26, 1943, in Montgomery, Ala., and she preceded him in death in 1991. He married Joyce Searles in 2000, and she survives.
Lyle, a retired real estate broker, was a 1940 graduate of Gorham-Fayette High School. He furthered his education at Ohio State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1948. Lyle served his country during World War II, serving as a B-17 captain in the 99th Bomb Group of the Army Air Corps. He received a Certificate of Valor in recognition of Courageous Service in Aerial Combat.
Surviving Lyle besides his wife are two sons, William (and Marsha) Link of Irvine and Steve (and Jennifer) Link of Highlands Ranch, Col.; three sisters, Imogene Cowgill of Morenci, Mich., Patricia Valentine of Sun City, Calif., and Linda (and Carver) Wagner of Fayette; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Edith; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Diane Link; a brother, Ralph; and a sister, Shirley Harter.
A funeral service is planned at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Rev. Winston Hatcliff officiating. Interment with military honors conducted by the Fulton County Honor Guard will follow at the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is scheduled from noon until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations in honor of Lyle are suggested to the American Heart Association.
