Irene Place, 90, of Morenci, Mich., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian, Mich.
She was born on April 14, 1919, in Wauseon, Ohio, the daughter of Dewey and Verna (Metcalf) Pike. On Jan. 12, 1942, in Hillsdale, she married George Place. He preceded her in death Oct. 23, 2003.
Irene was a life-long resident of the Morenci area where she was a member of the Morenci Bible Fellowship Church. She was formerly employed at NuSash in Adrian as an office manager, where she retired in 1980.
Survivors include five sons, George (and Kay) Place, Jr., of Webster, New York, David (and Irene) Place of Marquette, Mich., Michael (and Penny) Place of Adrian, Larry Place of Toledo, Ohio, and James (and Sandy) Place of Morenci; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Besides her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Robyn Rautio; a sister, Ila Kennedy; and a brother, Ivan Pike.
A funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Morenci Bible Fellowship Church, with Rev. James Yatzek officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Morenci Bible Fellowship Church.
