Barbara J. Ferris, 76, of Adrian, Mich., died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2009, at Toledo (Ohio) Hospital.
She was born July 17, 1933, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of John B. and Louise M. (Hartung) Martin. She married Charles M. Ferris on May 30, 1959, in Morenci, Mich., and he preceded her in death May 31, 1977.
Barb was a life-long resident of Lenawee County and graduated from Morenci High School in 1951. She retired from Fisher Body of Tecumseh in 1990, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Adrian, Adrian Friendly Center, the Recycled Teenager Band and Chimes and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Barb was an avid shuffleboard player, competing in the Senior Olympics at the state and national level, and was instrumental in obtaining the first outdoor shuffleboard court for the seniors at the Piotter Center in Adrian.
Surviving Barb are three sisters, Sister Patricia Martin of Adrian, Rose Mary Case of Adrian and Martha (and Paul) Monahan of Hudson, Mich.; one brother, John “Jack” (and Nancy) Martin of Adrian; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Martin of Adrian and Gena Martin of Jerome, Mich.; special friend Percy Wilson of Blissfield; one step-daughter, Sharon Stover of Morenci; one step-granddaughter, Amy Ferris; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Dolores Figy; and two brothers, Joseph “Ed” Martin and William “Bill” Martin.
Mass of Christian Burial is planned at noon Friday, Aug. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Adrian with Fr. Louis Komorowski, OSFS, as celebrant. Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the Liturgy at the church.
Arrangements were made by Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
