Jack Baird, 69, of Morenci, Mich., died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at home.
He was born Oct. 5, 1939, in Tecumseh, Mich., the son of William and Theo Rose (Johnston) Baird. On Aug. 19, 1983, in Adrian he married Margaret “Maggie” Basinger and she survives.
Jack lived in Morenci since 1982. He served in the Air Force from August 1958 thru May 1967, including four years in Vietnam. In 1977 he joined the Army National Guard Reserve and served through 1979. “Whistling Jack” was a postal carrier from 1971 until he retired in 1994. He joined the Morenci Police Reserves in 1982 and was the Zoning Administrator for Morenci for many years. Jack was a member of VFW in Wauseon, the Morenci American Legion Post #368 and the Wauseon American Legion Post #265.
Besides his wife, Jack is survived by four daughters, Judi Reed of Sylvania, Ohio, Shari (and Kevin) Wilson of Wauseon, Ohio, Kelley (and Bill) Shoop of Wauseon and Stephanie (and Todd) Struck of Tecumseh; two sons, Mike (and Michelle) Baird of Wauseon and Jorge (and Sheila) Farjardo of Utah; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elwyn Baird, of Tecumseh.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service is planned at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is scheduled from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
