George Dean Ziegler, 85, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Woodside Hospice facility in Pinellas Park, Fla., surrounded by the family he loved.
George was a resident of Maumee, Ohio, and St. Pete Beach, Fla., and a former resident of Fayette, Ohio.
George was a graduate of Chesterfield High School. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II, was a lifetime Mason, a 30-year contractor in Fayette, and he served as a Fayette village council member.
George was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, dedicated to his family. He volunteered at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic, was a member of Pass-A-Grille Community Church in St. Pete Beach, and attended First Congregational Church on Collingwood in Toledo, Ohio.
Upon retirement, George and his wife, Joan, bought and operated Windward Knoll Mobile Home Park in Thonotosassa, Fla., for seven years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, of 60 years; siblings, Rozella Marks, and Howard Keefer; children, Jolene (and Walt) Rogers of Peachtree City, Ga., Mike (and Kathy) Ziegler of Maumee, Ohio, and Holly Ziegler of St. Petersburg, Fla.; grandchildren, Chris, Reah and Wesley Rogers, Matt, Ryan and Abby Ziegler; and great-grandchildren Kora and Ava Ziegler, and CJ Rogers.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, May 25, at the Fayette Christian Church-Disciples in Fayette. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is planned from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette.
