Dorothea A. O’Brien, 91, of Lyons, Ohio, died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Arbors at Waterville in Waterville, Ohio.
She was born Oct. 6, 1918, in Fayette, Ohio, the daughter of Willie Lee and Ethel (Ratcliff) VanValkenburg. She married Harry M. O’Brien Sept. 11, 1937. He preceded her in death Nov. 30, 1975.
Dorothea was a graduate of Fayette High School and had lived in Lyons since 1988. She was formerly employed at Wauseon Manufacturing in Wauseon, Ohio, from where she retired.
Survivors include two daughters, Iris (and Glyndon) Ballard of Paint Lick, Ky., and Mary (and Delbert) Neill of Lyons, Ohio; a sister, Cynthia Allion, of Morenci, Mich.; a brother, John VanValkenburg, of Prattville, Ala.; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Dorothea was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Doris Smith and Florence VanValkenburg; and two brothers, William and Francis VanValkenburg.
Funeral services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30, at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
