Dale O. Waldfogel, 85, of Gettysburg, Pa., died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at home.
He was born Jan. 25, 1924, in Anderson, Ind., a son of the late Charles and Lena (Seiler) Waldfogel. He married Arlene Snow Dec. 24, 1943.
After graduating from Fayette (Ohio) High School in 1942, Mr. Waldfogel worked as a farmer for several years until moving to Hudson, Mich., in 1953 where he was employed as a machine operator and supervisor with M&S Manufacturing for 35 years until his retirement in 1988.
Mr. Waldfogel was an avid sportsman and fisherman and a member of sportsman’s clubs in Morenci and Blissfield, Mich. He especially loved archery and bowling and won state championships in both while in Michigan. He also enjoyed making his own muzzleloader guns from scratch.
Mr. Waldfogel attended First Baptist Church in Hudson and most recently attended Memorial Baptist Church after moving to Gettysburg in September 2007.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his son, Les (and Barbara) Waldfogel of Roseville, Calif.; two daughters, Janice Dawson of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Nancy S. (and Ken) McFeaters of Gettysburg; one grandson; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Hazel Pike.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sylvan Waldfogel, Gerald Waldfogel, and LaRue Waldfogel; one sister, Marie Pike; and one great-grandson.
The funeral service is scheduled at 11 a.m. April 21 at the Peters Funeral Home in Gettysburg, with Pastor Steven F. Baker officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette, Ohio.
