Lela F. Shinabery, 85, of Archbold, Ohio, died Jan. 31, 2009, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
She was born Sept. 22, 1923, near Hudson, Mich., the daughter of Lawrence and Lela (Cisco) Zimmerman. She married Robert M. Shinabery July 3, 1942, and he preceded her in death July 18, 1999.
Lela graduated from Fayette High School and attended Cleary College. She was the first secretary employed at M&S Manufacturing in Hudson. She became a homemaker and was later a volunteer for Cherry Coat at Bixby Medical Center in Adrian and a volunteer teacher’s aide at Hudson Elementary School.
A longtime Hudson area resident, Lela was a former member of the Reformed Mennonite Church at Lauber Hill and the Central Mennonite Church near Archbold. She moved to Archbold in 2000 where she attended Archbold Evangelical Church.
Lela is survived by two sons, Robert (and Kathleen) Shinabery of Branson, Mo., and Wayne (and Deborah) Shinabery of Archbold; three daughters, Joyce (and Lyle) Hutchison of Green Valley, Ariz., Brenda (and Gene) Metz of Fayette and Eileen (and Larry) Baus of Archbold; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon (and Maryann) Zimmerman of Lake Seneca, Mich.; three sisters, Wanda Austin of Camden, Mich., Thelma Munsell of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Phyllis (and Richard) McCloe of Brooklyn, Mich.
Besides her husband, Lela was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lowell and Cisco Zimmerman.
Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Feb. 3, at the Fairlawn Chapel in Archbold with Pastor Stuart Rex officiating. Burial will follow in Lauber Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lily Troyer Fund at Good News Methodist Church or the Mullinax Missionary Fund at Missionary Alliance Church.
