Arnold Fether, 77, of Acworth, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at the Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga.
He was born on July 31, 1931, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of Ralph and Nellie (Dunlap) Fether. On Aug. 16, 1955, in Angola, Ind., he married Carol Tuttle, and she survives.
Arnold had lived in Acworth for the past 14 years. He worked for the Wabash Railroad, which later became Norfolk & Southern, out of Detroit, Mich., retiring in 1991. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Eastside Baptist Church in Marietta, Ga., and a member of the American Legion in Canton, Ga.
Besides his wife, Arnold is survived by a daughter, Trisha (and Byron) Sabin of Acworth; a son, Eric (and Sheri) Fether of Canton; three grandchildren; and a sister, Sue Ann Wilgus, of Columbus, Ind.
Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Mark and Gregory; and a brother, Wayne Fether.
Funeral services are planned at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci, Mich., with Wes Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at the Michigan Memorial Cemetery in Flat Rock, Mich. Visitation is scheduled from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
