Irene Evers, 80, of Morenci, Mich., died Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2008, at Herrick Medical Center in Tecumseh, Mich.
She was born March 27, 1928, in Tedrow, Ohio, the daughter of Friend and Margery (Fausey) Shaffer. On July 11, 1992, in San Leon, Texas, she married Galen Evers. He preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1993.
Irene worked for Essex Wire in Wauseon, Ohio, for 25 years before the business closed. Then she went to work for Fulton Industry, also in Wauseon, for nine years retiring in April 1992.
She was a member of the Seneca Community Church, the Morenci American Legion Auxiliary for 42 years and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary in Wauseon.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbette (and Larry) Reynolds of Lorain, Ohio; a son, Robert (and Judy) Stewart of Napoleon, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; six step grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Adonna Stewart of Morenci, Helen Huffman of Montana, Margery Parke of Lake Seneca, Ohio, Carol Shaffer of Morenci and Diane Dangler of West Unity, Ohio; and a brother, Richard Shaffer of Morenci.
Besides her husband, Galen, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Stanley Steven Stewart in infancy; two sisters, Barbara Merillat and Alice Bailey; and a brother, Friend Shaffer, Jr.
A memorial service is planned at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at the Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. There will be a visitation from noon until time of service.
