Merle Glaser, 95, of Morenci, died Feb. 3, 2008, at Provincial House in Adrian.
He was born Feb. 20, 1912, in Minier, Ill., the son of Frank and Laura (Curtis) Glaser. His first wife, Catherine Taylor, preceded him in death Jan. 6, 1936, and his second wife, Evelyn Fausey, preceded him in death Oct. 13, 1978. His present wife, Nona (Sarver) Heston, survives in Milwaukie, Ore.
Merle was owner and operator of Glaser Welding in Morenci from 1937 to 1974. He was a member of Morenci Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Morenci Eagles, and was a volunteer fireman for many years. Merle enjoyed wood carving, gunsmithing, hunting, fishing, making hand crafted jewelry, and building race cars and sports cars.
Besides his wife, Merle is survived by two daughters, Roberta (and Robert) Arbuckle of Elkhart, Ind., and Rita (and James) Roth of Morenci; three sons, Robert (and Lillian) Glaser of Ellenton, Fla., Weldon (and Peg) Glaser of Bryan, Ohio, and Wendell Glaser of Morenci; 21 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his first and second wives, Merle was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Madeline Schaffner and Helen Maginn; one brother, Norman Glaser; and one great-grandson, Matthew Wilson.
Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at Eagle Funeral Home-Charles Fink Chapel in Morenci with Rev. Steve Daley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. Visitation is planned from noon until the time of the service Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Morenci Fire Department of the Morenci Sportsman’s Club.
