Millicent E. Ewing, 93, of Van Wert, Ohio, died May 25, 2006 at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.
She was born April 23, 1913 in Fayette, Ohio, the daughter of Nell (Macgowan) and Howard Gamber. She married William Paul Ewing in June 1942 and he died Jan. 18, 1993.
Millicent taught home economics and physical education at Fayette High School for seven years before she moved to San Francisco, Calif. She and her husband moved to Van Wert after World War II and bought the former Van Wert Lumber and ran it for 29 years as Ewing Lumber.
She was a member of the Van Wert Women’s Club and the Van Wert American Legion Auxiliary and a life member of the Van Wert Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert, Ohio.
Millicent is survived by a daughter, Paula (and Gordon) Stemen of Van Wert; two grandchildren, Brian Stemen of Columbus, Ohio, and Andrew Stemen of Van Wert; a nephew, William Ralston and two nieces, Nancy Calvert and Sally Lane.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elvira Ralston, and two brothers, William Gamber and Raymond Dick Gamber, in infancy.
Services were May 27 at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Edward Jillson officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Van Wert. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Health Professionals—Hospice or First Presbyterian Church.
