Ilene Mae Whitis, 85, of Bourbonnais, Ill., died Jan. 8, 2008, at her home.
She was born Nov. 24, 1922, in Jerry City, Ohio, to James and Lavina (Taylor) Spengler. She married Noel Whitis, Sr., on Dec. 30, 1941, in Fayette, Ohio, and he survives.
Ilene was a teacher and counselor. She belonged to the Church of the Nazarene in Ohio and Indiana.
Ilene is survived by two sons, Noel, Jr. (and Judy) Whitis of Bourbonnais and James (and Cindy) Whitis of Indianapolis, Ind.; two daughters, Natalie (and Dennis) Buhro of Kendallville, Ind., and Cheryl (and Mark) Smith of Bourbonnais; 10 grandchildren, Matt (and Amy) Whitis of Bourbonnais, Gregg Whitis of Ann Arbor, Mich., Brad (and Michelle) Buhro of Middletown, Ind., Josh (and Jessica) Buhro of Kendallville, Ind., Jennifer Smith of London, England, Jessica (and Andy) Corbus of Bourbonnais, Hillary Smith of Nashville, Tenn., and Alisa, Scott and Laura Mossbarger, all of Indianapolis; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ed Spangler.
Funeral services were Jan. 10 at the Clancy Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais with Brad Buhro officiating. Interment is planned Jan. 11 in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette, Ohio.
