John F. Sager, 78, of Fayette, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.

He was born April 8, 1929, in Clayton, Mich., to Fred Joseph and Julia Belle (Vanvorse) Sager. He married Mary Ann Cowan and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1972. He married Sandra E. Ford on Aug. 4, 1975, in Wauseon, Ohio, and she survives.

John retired from Stauffer Chemical in Weston, Mich., in 1992, with more than 35 years of service. He was a member of Fayette United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #0888 of Delaware, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and baking cookies for his grandchildren.

 Besides his wife, Sandy, of Fayette, John is survived by one daughter, Patricia (and Kris) Klein of Shelby Twp., Mich.; one son, Joe (and Patricia) Sager of Bangor, Pa.; six step-children, Tammy (and Patrick) Kennedy of Winterhaven, Fla., Mary (and Mark) Schuler of Tucson, Ariz., Todd (and Janine)) Cook of Fargo, N.D., Andrea Cook of Wauseon, Ohio, William Cook of Tucson and Heidi (and Craig) Paxton of Archbold, Ohio; 24 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Sharon Lamb of Taylor, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; one sister, Betty McCaskey; and one step-son, John “Randy” Cook.

Funeral services are scheduled at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Eagle Funeral Home in Fayette with Rev. William VanValkenburg officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. Visitation is planned Monday from noon until service time.
