Candidates still needed in Fayette 2013.07.17

Posted in 2013 July

With the filing deadline three weeks away, one more candidate is needed to fill a position on the Fayette village council and four are needed for the school board.

Four council terms are expiring and petitions have been filed by only three village residents. If no one else seeks a seat, council members will appoint a resident to fill the position.

Councilors Julia Ruger and Diane Brubaker are not seeking reëlection, but Mat Johnson and Rodney Kessler will try for another term. Scott Wagner has also filed for a seat. Wagner currently serves as president of the park board.

Petition packets are available at the Board of Elections office in Wauseon. Council terms are for four years.

Council has discussed increasing councilors’ pay back to $1,000 annually. The rate was cut in half a few years ago.

There are also opportunities for school district residents to serve on the board of education. Two appointed positions—held by David Brinegar and Trent Dominique— expire at the end of the year, and the terms of Pam Seiler and Deb Leininger expire this year.

Two people have obtained petitions, but no one has yet filed for office.
