George's Radio opening new location in Morenci 2013.04.24

Andy Slawinski is a fan of small towns and he loves to offer the services of the big city in a small town—especially when the word “service” stays with the sale.

That’s what he likes about about George’s Radio and Antenna Service, the business he bought from George Walworth in 2009.

In addition to antenna and tower work, Slawinski sells Sony TV products, two-way communication equipment, and Dish Network and Direct TV subscriptions.

If you call a nationally-advertised phone number for Dish Network, or if you pay for it at big store, you won’t see George’s truck pulling up at your house, Slawinski said. It’s a common misconception, he said. People often expect a local service person for installation and maintenance, but that’s not the way it works.

“There aren’t too many family-owned businesses that can sell at the national price,” Slawinski said, but George’s can, along with offering the service that’s lost with a big box purchase.

Slawinski is opening the Morenci store (in the former Movie Gallery building on Main Street) to reach customers in this area as well as in Hudson and north toward the lakes. The Wauseon location continues to serve customers in Ohio.

Andy and his wife, Alexandra, are owners of the business. Michelle McGarrity-Pugh will handle sales at the Morenci store while Brian Roth serves as the head technician. Tom Miller will work at both locations.

A grand opening is planned Saturday at George’s from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with refreshments and door prizes. The business will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 9 until noon on Saturdays.

Slawinski said he’s very impressed with Morenci and pleased with the friendly response he’s received from everyone he’s met.
