Athletic busing policy changes 2012.11.21

Morenci Area Schools' effort to cut costs is moving into the athletic program with a change in bus transportation to athletic events.

For any contest that is 25 miles or closer to Morenci, athletes must find their own way to the game. Busses will be provided for events farther than 25 miles.

"This only pertains to junior varsity and varsity teams," said athletic director Phil Stark. "We will still provide all transportation for the middle school games and meets."

Coaches or other school employees will not assign rides, Stark explained. Instead, it's up to parents and students to find a ride to the opposing school.

Each coach has a schedule showing which dates are self-transport and which are school-transport. Athletes should receive them soon if they haven't already been distributed. For the winter season, self-transport games are against Fayette, Hudson, Sand Creek, Madison, Lenawee Christian School and Adrian.

A Saturday rule was already in effect from the previous school year and that continues this year. The school does not provide transportation to athletic events on Saturdays, no matter what the distance.
