New Morenci store features antiques, collectables 2012.08.08

When Matt Woznicki bought a large collection of antiques and other collectables recently, it helped tip the scale. He didn’t have the room in his house so he rented space downtown.

Now Collector’s King is open at 219 W. Main St. in Morenci, in Wes Clark’s former carpet store building. Rather than store his collections in a storage unit, he chose to go with a retail outlet.

“I can spread it all out in there,” he said, adding that it’s a much better way to organize items.

Collecting is something Woznicki started as a child.

“I’ve been doing this for close to 35 years. It started with sports cards,” he said, but it’s grown since then and baseball cards are no longer his favorite. “I love the toys.”

A few antique toys are on display in the store windows along with other items.

Woznicki buys goods at auctions and he also buys other people’s collections. He generally attends shows twice a month.

“It just seems to multiply,” he said.

He buys and sells on eBay and he will now do that work while at the store during open hours Thursday through Sunday.

He plans to start taking items on consignment and he would like to use the back of the building for auctions in the future.
