Kendrick Taylor to compete in golf regional 2012.06.06

Morenci golfer Kendrick Taylor isn’t pleased with his season so far, but he thinks it’s coming together at the right time.

The junior put together a good enough game Thursday to qualify for the regional tournament for the second year in a row. The event was at Leslie Park Golf Course on the north side of Ann Arbor.

Taylor had one of those what-if rounds where he finished the day with a 42 on the back nine after opening with a 50 on the front.

“I had a rough front side,” he said, and it wouldn’t have taken too much to finish in the 80s instead of his 92.

Still, he was among the top six individuals not on a qualifying team so he will make the trip to Westwynd.

“The year hasn’t gone as I wanted it to,” Taylor said, “but it’s starting to come around at the right time.”

Taylor carded a 90 at the TCC match this spring in Tecumseh and placed 14th overall.

Sand Creek qualified for the regional tournament as a team and Summerfield’s Wyatt Spalding came through with the second lowest district score at 73. Whitmore Lake and Madison both qualified in Div. III.

Morenci’s other golfer, Colin Richardson, scored a 117 at the district tournament.
