Fred and Dawn Stockburger have been in their new location for several months now, but it was only last week when shelving was complete that Fred decided it’s time to declare the store officially open.
The Stockburgers moved their office and supplies to a building adjacent to their Fayette Feed Mill after remodeling the former Fayette Auto Repair.
In addition to the office and retail space, there’s also a drive-through window for customers to place an order and get their purchase loaded under a roof.
The drive-through is for customers’ convenience, Fred said, but most of them stop in to talk anyway. Drive-throughs are fairly common at feed stores further south in Ohio, he said.
The Stockburgers still carry dog and cat food, show feeds, bird feed, custom mixed feed in a bag or bulk, and miscellaneous items ranging from Bag Balm to rodent poison, but they’ve also expanded their line since moving.
Because the auto parts store is closed, Fayette Feed carries Interstate batteries, some NAPA oil and filters and a limited amount of parts such as headlights and wiper blades.
They also carry water softener salt and they’re thinking of adding a freezer for meats.
The change has worked out well, Fred said, and he’s also added a family member to the company. The Stockburgers’ son, Parker, is on the road working in sales.
In addition to daily hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Fayette Feed is also back to its 8 a.m. until noon time on Saturdays.
