The Morenci Garden Club met at the Congregational Church May 8. Sandy Cahill and Sharon Bruce served as co-hostesses.
Anita Prats reported that the hummingbirds are back and she has also spotted the following birds—a pileated woodpecker on M-156; Baltimore orioles, sandhill cranes, tree swallows and pheasants. She also reported that purple martins are nesting in the gourds on her property.
Those attending the Michigan Garden Clubs, Inc., District IIA spring meeting in Saline on April 28 were Betsy Smith, Lois Speed, Michelle Stevens, Sandy Wheeler, Becky Schermerhorn and Becky Miller. Programs presented were: Outstanding Gardens to Visit; Native Lotus Plants Growing Near Monroe; and Wildflowers in Michigan.
Lois Speed directed the Adopt-a-Highway committee on April 21. Those who participated in the trash pick-up were Lori Drogowski, Jane Brasher-Garrow, Sandy Cahill, Cecil Schoonover, Michelle Stevens, Becky Miller and Theresa Lakatos.
The garden club’s annual plant exchange for the public and club members is scheduled at 9 a.m. June 2, at Wakefield Park. Bring five “starts” and take home five plants. Plant “starts” should be clearly identified.
The club’s next field trip is planned June 16 to Linton’s Enchanted Gardens in Indiana.
