Fayette FFA members are preparing to observe National FFA Week Feb. 18-25. Spirit Week, a teacher luncheon, and the Ag Olympics are scheduled.

In the current school year, Fayette’s Rural Soil Judging team placed first among 22 teams in the district contest. Joshua Smith placed first in the individual standings. The other team members were Mikayla Smith, Demi Powers, Cole Burkholder, Collin McCabe, Patty Hookstadt, Thomas Ehman and Noelle Goodson.

The urban soils team placed third out of 22 entries. Members are Jessie Torres (third place individual), MacKenzie Fruchey, Reba Rash, Sarah Kovar and Travis Pennington.

Both teams advanced to the state soil judging contests.

In the district Dairy Foods and Dairy Judging contest, the foods team placed third of 15 teams. Team members are Allison Cuff (fourth place individual), Reba Rash, Noelle Goodson, Joshua Smith, Patty Hookstadt, Travis Pennington and Presley Pennington.

The dairy team placed second among 17 teams. Members are Sarah Kovar (who tied first place), Zayne Colegrove, MacKenzie Fruchey, Demi Powers, Taylor West, Cole Burkholder, Spencer Keefer and Alec Hylander.

Fayette’s officers attended the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis. They went to a career show, toured a honey bee farm, got a behind-the-scenes tour of a haunted house attraction, and toured an aquaculture facility to see how fish are grown in a controlled environment.

Kalley Martin received her American FFA Degree and Noelle Goodson was selected again this year to perform with the National FFA Chorus. Any FFA student is invited to try out for the elite 80-member group.

Fayette’s Parliamentary Procedure team—Reba Rash, Sarah Kovar, Jon Boesger, Demi Powers, Patty Hookstadt, Amanda Gilmore, Jessie Torres, Cady Stockburger, Noelle Goodson, Riley Martin and Alec Hylander—met its goal of qualifying for a trip to the state contest by winning the county competition and placing second in the district contest.
