kenny shadboltThe Morenci Athletic Boosters honored a fan Friday night who has supported the school athletic program in many ways. Kenny Shadbolt was given a plaque  honoring his continued support of the athletes of Morenci Area Schools.

Ken graduated from Morenci High School and has since filled many roles in support of Morenci athletics, ranging from serving as a member of the “chain gang” for Friday night football to being the parent and grandparent of Morenci athletes. His latest endeavor involves serving as the equipment manager for the 2011 varsity football team.

Kenny estimates he has watched about 550 varsity football games and a few hundred JV games over the last 63 years. He was once a Morenci athlete, participating in football for four years, basketball for three years, and track for three years.

“If you know Kenny,” said Phil McCaskey of the Boosters, “you are aware of how much sports play a role in his life. Originally the plaque was to be presented at the Fall Sports Banquet, but that was one of Kenny’s bowling nights.”

The plaque reads: In appreciation for many years of support for the athletes of Morenci Area Schools. Your continued support has not gone unnoticed by the many loyal members of the Bulldog community. You are the true example of the meaning of a Morenci Bulldog fan.
