Morenci school board 2011.10.05

The Morenci Board of Education hired eight paraprofessional employees Monday night to bolster the instructional staff.

Five of the employees are classified as student assigned paraprofessionals who are hired to work with a specific special-needs child.

One of the children attends school in another district where services are offered to meet the child’s needs. Because the student is enrolled in Morenci, an aide must be hired by the Morenci board.

The student-assigned aides are Dale Wiser, Amanda Amos, Levi Hoffman, Christina Rohr and Sherri Dillon.

Renate Benjamin was hired to serve as an instructional paraprofessional to aid teachers in the second and fourth grades that have large enrollments. She is also expected to handle some remedial education tasks.

Phil Grime was hired as a Title I independent paraprofessional, replacing Paula Grieder who was brought back from layoff for a teaching position.

Laura Mead-Desmet will serve as the technology paraprofessional and work in the high school computer labs to oversee on-line courses.

In one other personnel matter, board members approved the retirement of Carol Moran who worked with the food service program.

ENROLLMENT—Superintendent Dr. Michael Osborne said he is still pleased with the district’s enrollment. On student count day this week, he doesn’t expect to see an increase over last year’s enrollment, but the enrollment will be above the level projected in the budget.

That will put the district in a better financial position than expected when the budget was created.
