Glassmen to perform 2011.06.15

People who said “I wish I’d gone” after hearing talk of the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps preview show might want to mark their calendars for Sunday afternoon.

The Glassmen will present a preview of the 2011 competition show at 4 p.m. Sunday at Morenci’s football field. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Glassmen.

The group’s Family Day event gives members a final opportunity to prepare for the summer—their first full performance in front of an audience—and also serves as a last visit with the parents who are able to attend the show before the group embarks on their buses for the summer tour.

The Sunday performance is a “thank you” to the residents of Morenci, as well, in return for listening to the frequent practice sessions. The main base of the Glassmen is the former Chesterfield School, but the group meets occasionally inside Morenci Area High School in the winter for practice. When warmer weather arrives, the group uses the school football fields for rehearsal, as well as city streets.

Last year the football field bleachers filled to capacity, so come early to get a seat.

Following the show, the Glassmen have scheduled a chicken barbecue fund-raiser. Meals must be ordered in advance by calling 419/698-9775.
