Bomber's Diner re-opens in Lyons 11.17.2010

Health issues took John Tejkl out of the kitchen at his Bomber’s Diner in Lyons and the restaurant closed in 2007.

With the Lyons Den now closed, the village was left without a regular restaurant and John started hearing requests to open the diner again.

He and wife, Madonna, are cooking again—at least when they’re not at their other jobs. John works for Ford Motor Co. and Madonna is with the food service at Adrian College, but they have a staff that operates the restaurant when they’re away.

It gets rather hectic, John said, but they’re making it work.

“It’s just a small-town diner,” he said. “A place where you can stop in for a quick burger.”

That would be his 10-ounce Bomber Burger that could be served with the Bomber brownie.

“I’m famous for my sloppy joe recipe, too,” he said.

The Tejkls offer mostly the same menu that was available before the restaurant closed, but they’ve added a breakfast special on weekends.

John said he’s always enjoyed cooking and he frequently helps out with the American Legion meals in Morenci. Now he has plenty to keep him busy right in Lyons.
