A once-a-year festival just isn’t enough for some members of the Morenci Area Chamber of Commerce, so an events committee got together and developed a mini-festival for August.
The first Classic Family Fun Day is scheduled Friday downtown.
The word “classic” refers to the original idea for the event—a classic car show. That’s where it started, but that turned out to be only the beginning.
The Adrian Street Cruisers will bring their classic autos and trucks to town for a show in the city parking lot behind the library from noon to 4 p.m.
Kids are invited to join in by bringing their decorated bicycles downtown for a judging contest. Trophies will be distributed at 2:30 p.m.
A motorcycle show is planned from 2 to 6 p.m. along Main Street, and live music will get underway at 4 p.m. A stage will be erected in front of the library for more than three hours of music provided by Mouth Sown Shut, Static Ego and Dead Inside. The groups will perform for tips only.
Vendors are expected to set up shop along the Main Street sidewalks starting at noon. Representatives from Avon, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple and Mary Kay will offer their goods, along with the sale of jewelry and items made in Kenya. Proceeds from the jewelry booth will support an orphanage in Kenya.
Any local crafters are invited to set up a booth for a $5 charge. Contact Sheila Thompson at 517/458-6309 for information.
A bake sale is also scheduled.
Other special events include a dunk tank sponsored by the fire department, the Balloon Man, Tarot Card Reading by Jean and a corn hole tournament.
