The Fayette Historical Society continues to collect information about the community and its people from a variety of books and newspapers, but new data from individuals is always a welcome surprise.
Grace and Don Sly recently brought in a collection of obituaries and earlier important information was obtained from the historical business records of Dale Pfund’s hardware store.
Anyone with information or photographs to share is urged to call David Metcalf or Kathy Fix. In addition, anyone interested in Fayette history is welcome to attend the group’s meetings.
At the June 28 meeting, Colleen Rufenacht presented information about area one-room schoolhouses and about the Underground Railroad activities in the area.
David Metcalf talked about a project for the Fayette schools alumni banquet. Kathy Fix spoke about the 1873 incorporation date of Fayette and she showed albums of historical documents about the town.
The next meeting of the Fayette Historical Society is scheduled at 7 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Opera House.
