The Fulton Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is offering rain barrels for purchase.
A rain barrel system collects and stores rainwater from the roof of a house, which would otherwise be lost to runoff and diverted to storm drains and streams. The soft water contains no chlorine, lime or calcium which makes it ideal for gardens, flower pots and car and window washing.
Rain barrels can save up to 1,300 gallons of water during the peak summer months, saving homeowners money. Diverting water from storm drains also decreases the impact of runoff to streams.
The 55 to 60-gallon barrels are constructed with a hose connector, linking hose connector, and an overflow connector. The top of the barrel is covered with a screen to catch leaves and insects.
To see a rain barrel on display, visit the Fulton SWCD office at 8770 St. Rt. 108, Suite B, in Wauseon, across from the fairgrounds.
