Town & Country Festival committee looking for help 06.30.2010

Morenci’s Town and Country Festival Committee members believe they’re at a crossroad—either the festival is going to begin shrinking or more people are going to begin helping.

Following the festival last week, committee members met for a wrap-up session and the primary topic was the lack of assistance.

“We all love volunteering our time and talents each year to bring the festival to life,” said committee member Kori Christle, “but at this point in time, unless we get more volunteers we just don’t see how we can keep going on.”

She’s urging people to think about the various events in the festival—plus new events that aren’t already on the schedule—and to volunteer to coordinate the event.

“We are looking for people to please step forward and agree to take on one project that they feel would be the best fit for them and run with it,” she said.

Help is especially needed in three areas—entertainment, clean-up and fund raising.

Kent Deatrick handles hiring and organizing the bands and musical talent, but help is needed with additional entertainment to help keep the stage occupied throughout the festival.

Someone is needed to organize park clean-up both during and after the festival.

A few people are also needed to help during the year. Not everyone is able to spend the entire three days at the festival, but people could organize a fund-raiser or two during the year.

“So many small communities have had to cancel their yearly festivals due to a lack of volunteers and funds,” Christle said. “Let’s not have Morenci be one of them.”
