Fayette library levy OKd for ballot 01.20.2010

A levy proposal for Fayette’s Normal Memorial Library will appear on the ballot for school district residents in the May 4 election.

Final approval came last week at the Fayette Board of Education meeting.

Following state cuts to libraries, the Normal Memorial Library board voted to seek a 0.75-mill operating levy for five years. If approved, the first collection from the levy would arrive in May 2011.

Library board president Mike Figgins told the school board in October the millage would bring in about $30,000 annually and cost a typical homeowner less than $15 a year.

The funds could help restore some Saturday hours that were cut due to a funding shortage.

COMMITTEE—An organizational meeting is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, to form a levy committee.

Area residents are invited to attend the meeting at the library to learn how to become part of the levy campaign.

For more information, call the library at 419/237-2115 or stop in to speak with a staff member.
