Additional coaches and assistants for all three sports seasons were approved for the 2009-10 school year at Morenci’s Board of Education meeting Monday.

Coaches approved were: Roger Pontious, baseball; Andrew Schang, assistant baseball; Anthony Barron, volunteer assistant baseball; Kay Johnson, softball; Renae Schaffner, assistant softball coach;

Brad Brown, varsity track; Kim Mohr, assistant varsity track; Dan Hoffman, middle school track; Travis Kruse, assistant middle school track; Scott Clark, varsity wrestling; Jesse Bach, assistant varsity wrestling; Jessica Taylor, JV and varsity competitive cheer; Robyn Taylor, assistant varsity competitive cheer;

Nancy Shamplo, middle school competitive cheer; Ashley Joughin, seventh grade volleyball; Curtis Parsons, volunteer assistant football; and Jacob Bovee, volunteer assistant football.

Ruth Marlatt, a recent retiree who worked for Morenci schools for 10 years, was presented with an engraved clock.

“A clock just doesn’t say it all,” said Superintendent Kyle Griffith. “We have really appreciated everything Ruth has given to the system over the past 10 years.”

Supt. Griffith offered his thanks to the many people who worked behind the scenes and after hours to complete all the summer remodeling and construction projects on time.

“Morenci is really on top of the game when comparing facilities,” Griffith said. “That bond vote was huge. It is the result of hardworking people who care about our kids.”

The resignation of Lisa Love, full-time bus driver, was approved.

April Shaffer was hired as full-time bus driver and Heather Dilworth was hired as part-time instructional paraprofessional.

In a motion by Phil McCaskey, the approval of the Coach’s Handbook was tabled.

“We were unable to discuss this in our committee due to time constraints,” McCaskey explained.
